Your easiest client
Let me tell you about your favorite kind of client.
The easy one.
Pays on time.
Never complains.
Been with you for years.
You barely think about them, honestly.
Because you never have to.
And that’s the trap.

That client – the easy, quiet, no-trouble one – is probably the one you’re neglecting most.
Not in the work.
The work is fine.
That’s exactly why they’ve stayed.
I mean the relationship.
The growth that could be happening there, and just… isn’t.

Think about it for a second.
And there’s nothing wrong with that – except everything that could have been.
carve-left

Because we tell ourselves a nice little story about these clients.
“If they needed more, they’d ask.”
They won’t.
A happy client assumes you’re already doing everything you do.
They’re not sitting there studying your list of services, wondering what else to buy.
They hired you for one thing, you did it well, and now that’s just… the shape of the relationship, frozen where it started.

The asking was always your job.
Not theirs.
And here’s the simple math of it.
Winning a brand-new client is hard, and expensive, and slow.
Growing one who already trusts you? That’s the easiest yes in your whole business – and it’s the one almost nobody asks for.
The comfortable clients feel like your wins. So they’re the last ones you think about.
And the growth sitting right there inside those relationships just waits, politely, for someone to notice it.

So a small, slightly uncomfortable exercise this week.
Pull up your client list.
Look for the ones who’ve been exactly the same size for a year or more.
The easy ones.
The ones you never worry about.
Then ask yourself, honestly – when’s the last time you started a real conversation with them about what else you could do together?
For most of us, the answer stings a little.
